CBD Oil Basics
It is the second richest cannabinoid that can be extracted from the hemp plant which is known as Cannabis sativa. It is widely studied for its possible therapeutic effects to counter diseases and disorders. These side effects include epilepsy, inflammation, anxiety, spasticity, anxiety, affective disorders, neurodegenerative diseases, cancers, etc.
The Food and Drug Administration or FDA of the United States recently permitted a purified form of herbal CBD known as Epidiolex. It is mainly used for treating Dravet and Lennox-Gastaut syndromes which are severe types of epilepsy in children.

As a result, researchers from the University of Reading in the United Kingdom and the University of California Davis have chemically manufactured a non-psychoactive alternative version, which they called 8,9-dihydro cannabidiol or H2CBD. Unlike the CBD oil, this innovation is cheaper, simpler, and could even prevent legal complications as it is said to be not addictive.
H2CBD is a much safer version of CBD because it does not need the cultivation of hemp. Both the teams from the University of Reading and UC Davis have discovered a one-step process to formulate the synthetic drug. Since it is not found in the plant extracts of Cannabis it is not a controlled substance.
It can be easily produced in a laboratory and thus it would counteract the necessity to cultivate cannabis as a crop.
The scientists tested H2CBD on an experimental rat that was chemically-induced with epilepsy using the drug pentylenetetrazole or PTZ which causes convulsions. This is to prove whether claims that the compound has anticonvulsant properties are true. Laboratory results presented that pre-treating rats with H2CBD was as effective as administering an equivalent dosage of cannabis-derived CBD oil as a pre-treatment procedure. Seizures were reported to be inhibited by the synthetic drug.
These findings depict that the anticonvulsant action of H2CBD anticonvulsant action would depend on the dosage of PTZ upon the rats.
Moreover, further studies must be conducted to prove whether H2CBD is effective and safe to use especially for humans.
The group of experts from the University of Reading and UC Davis School of Medicine is currently doing further investigations regarding the drug. They are planning to do clinical trials on human beings as soon as possible.
The University of California Davis has applied for a conditional patent on the anti-seizure or anti-epileptic use of H2CBD. To support the study and development of the compound, a company named Syncanica was even put up. It is being spearheaded by Dr. Mark Mascal who is a professor at UC Davis under the chemistry department.
